El The New York Times, en colaboración con The Upshot, publicó un esperado ranking con las 100 mejores películas del siglo XXI. La selección se realizó tras encuestar a más de 500 directores, actores, guionistas, críticos y profesionales de la industria, quienes eligieron los títulos que más impacto cultural y artístico tuvieron desde el 1 de enero de 2000.
Entre los votantes se destacan figuras como Pedro Almodóvar, Sofia Coppola, Barry Jenkins, Guillermo del Toro, Julianne Moore, John Turturro, Chiwetel Ejiofor y Emma Stone, que aportaron sus 10 películas favoritas. El listado refleja la diversidad de géneros, estilos y lenguas que marcaron al cine en tiempos de grandes cambios, como la irrupción del streaming y el auge de las franquicias.
